Star Wars T-Shirt
I wanted to see how printing from lino onto fabric would work
and having looked on the web for tutorials found a couple of
useful tips.
What then to print? I like Star Ward and my grown up kids also
like Star Wars. The AT-AT Walker lands itself onto link, and I
started with an image on the web, from a Hasbro model.
I then put this through Photoshop re polarizing the image and
then drew this onto the lino. I like the small u-shaped cutter
the best as it forces you to make decisions on what to cut
and when to leave. He cutting tool dictates the final look
of the artwork due to the line weights you can achieve.
I bought a tube of Turquoise Fabric Ink (SpeedBall) and inked up,
did a couple of trials on paper and then started printing.
The Process
I place a wooden board inside the t-shirt, then ink up the roller
and ink the link. It’s the reverse of printing on paper as you
place the lino onto the fabric and then rub the back of the lino
hard using a roller to transfer the ink to the fabric.
Unlike paper – it’s a one shot process as you can’t lift the lino
and replace – I tried and the fabric moves.
But if you get the ink correct on the lino, you get a good result.
Through trial and error – I kept cutting the lino around the main
image to remove the excess lines I didn’t want.
But you can see the result looks really good.
The image was about 200mm x 150mm
